Major League Soccer club DC United are ‘intent on signing’ Leeds United midfielder Mateusz Klich in the January transfer window, according to reliable journalist Phil Hay.
The Lowdown: Klich on the move?
The 32-year-old has been a stalwart for the Whites ever since their days in the Championship, now just eight appearances away from reaching 200, but he has found himself out of favour this season following the arrival of Tyler Adams.
In fact, Klich hasn’t made a single start in the Premier League in 2022/23, instead restricted to 11 substitute appearances totalling just 188 minutes.
A move away from Leeds has been mooted recently, and it looks increasingly as if the Poland midfielder might be into the final knocking of his time at Elland Road.
The Latest: DC United ‘intent on signing’ Klich
On Monday, Hay took to Twitter to share a report from The Athletic on Leeds’ transfer plans for January, mentioning in the tweet that DC United are ‘still intent on signing Klich’.
In the corresponding article, the journalist stated that the 32-year-old has ‘a very good offer’ on the table from Wayne Rooney’s side, and that ‘the signs are that he might well go’ as it ‘makes sense for him to take up an opportunity elsewhere’.

The Verdict: Right time to exit?
At this point, it would be a surprise if Klich is still a Leeds player at the end of next month, with this feeling like a natural end to his time at Elland Road.
If he does move on, he should always be remembered as a strong performer for the Whites, however, having racked up 24 goals in 192 appearances in Yorkshire, being hailed as ‘wonderful’ by the club’s former midfielder David Prutton.
Should Klich depart, a younger replacement needs to come in, ensuring Jesse Marsch has enough depth in his squad between now and the end of the season.
