Ahead of Monday night’s top draw clash between Manchester United and Arsenal in the FA Cup, Louis van Gaal has been quick to reveal that whilst the tournament offers him a great chance to bring some silverware home to Old Trafford in his first season – the league will simply remain the club’s highest priority.
ESPN are reporting that the Dutchman – who came close to trophy success with his native Netherlands at the World Cup last summer – is staying focused on qualifying for the Champions League next season above all else.
When pressed on the matter; Louis van Gaal revealed; “Of course, as a manager you always want to win things.”
“I am no different and I can tell you that we shall do our best against Arsenal, but I also say this: My target at the start of this season was to finish in the top four and that is still my target. If I have a priority, then it is the top four.”
Whilst such statements may come as a slight disappointment to the most ambitious of Man United fans, Louis van Gaal remains adamant that the Red Devils will still put on a show for the FA Cup.
“The Arsenal game is very important. Every match you play has an influence of the next match. We are in a rat race in the Premier League and whoever wins the FA Cup game has a good feeling for the next matches.”
Manchester United currently occupy the last top four spot in the Premier League, one point behind third placed Arsenal, and only two points ahead of Liverpool in fifth.
